EASTPOINT

Rob Drysdale and Matt Dobbs identified a gap in the provision of dedicated farm animal veterinary services to the farms of Kent, and so in 2004 Paul Horwood moved from the Westpoint practice in West Sussex to Biddenden in Kent and set up Eastpoint Veterinary Services.

Eastpoint was the second practice to be set up in the Westpoint Veterinary Group and has grown well from its humble beginnings to being a farm vet animal care practice covering Kent and East Sussex.

With Alex Walters joining the team in 2008, Eastpoint had outgrown its old offices in Biddenden and moved to its present location in Ashford, which many clients will remember as being the old Barrow Hill House.  Our new premises have enabled us to have a dedicated space to run farmer meetings and training events at our site.

Our Vets

Paul Horwood BVetMed DBR MRCVS

07702 692895

Paul Horwood qualified in 2003 from the Royal Veterinary College in London, and after graduating stayed on at the busy Large Animal teaching practice, first undertaking an internship and then residency in farm animal medicine and surgery.  After a spell working on very large dairy herds in California, he moved to Westpoint in 2003.

In 2004 Paul moved to Kent and started up Eastpoint Veterinary Services, the Kent and East Sussex part of the Westpoint Group.  In 2008, Paul was awarded a diploma in Bovine Reproduction from the University of Liverpool, in part of his work on synchronisation and AI in dairy cattle.

He has published articles in the Vet Times, UK Vet and Cattle Practice, and is actively involved in farmer education.  Paul's particular veterinary interests are in cattle fertility and nutrition.

Alex Walters BVSc MRCVS

07712 585090

Alex has been affiliated with Westpoint Veterinary Group since 2004 and immediately joined the practice in 2006 having qualified from the University of Bristol.

Based in the Warnham headquarters, he fuelled his interests in production animal medicine and developed his knowledge of current farming economics before joining Eastpoint in 2007.  Teaming up with Paul at the rapidly expanding Ashford based practice, Alex is determined to ensure that clients are provided with a friendly and committed veterinary service.

Infectious disease control including BVD, Leptospirosis, IBR and Johne's are areas in which he is most interested especially with respect to herd accreditation schemes.  He is very passionate about cost effective screening, eradication and control programs to maximise productivity and herd health status.

Alex is BCVA approved in performing Bull Breeding Soundness Examinations, a cost effective service that has quickly become highly demanded across the south of England.

From January 2009, Alex will be undertaking the Postgraduate Certificate in advanced veterinary practice designated specifically in Cattle Health and Production (CHP) - this will help him keep abreast of developments in a volatile and ever changing industry!

Alex is very keen in working together with farmers to maximise herd fertility and minimising the hidden costs of poor herd reproductive management in both dairy and beef industries.
